i <3 jenna wilson

... and not for her fabulous patterns like Rogue and Eris, but for this:

sleeve cap math

It took me 3 tries to digest the article - the first time I was distracted because I was at knitting group, the second time I was distracted because I had the TV on, and then the third time I read over it with no distractions it finally clicked. And now sleeve cap design makes so much sense! I'm still a little unsure about the parts that are supposed to be "personal preference" - I haven't really knit enough sleeve caps yet to know what my preferences are. But other than that, the article is great! I highly recommend it to anyone trying to design your own sleeve caps. :)

Haha, you guys rock - I love that you're all so supportive of me without even knowing what I'm working on! (Hopefully, if you saw it, the reaction wouldn't be "... oh. Nevermind.") My plan right now is to finish it as quickly as I can, but at the same time I don't want to rush it toooooooo much. I'd rather have it finished nicely and be accompanied by a well-written pattern and submit it for winter Knitty than to scrap something together by July 1 and submit it in a sub-par state for the fall issue. If it seems like I'll be finished on July 5 or somewhere close to that, I might email Amy and ask if there's any flexibility in the deadline... but the other concern is that this is a piece made out of thick wool and so the humid 90-degree weather hasn't been very conducive to speed knitting. So yes, winter Knitty is the current plan.

I don't do meme's very often, but I liked this one... it didn't even come from a blog, it came from a random search that led me to an old message board post. I'm not going to officially tag anyone, but if you want to do it, go for it! And post a comment so I can go read yours.

I tried to use a different artist for each song, though I think I could easily have my entire soundtrack be Ani Difranco. Hmm, reading over the song list I think I just might have to make myself a mix CD. ;)

Oh yeah one more thing - if anyone is looking for Prosperous Plum Cotton Fleece, it's very very cheap here. Not to enable or anything of course!

well, that will teach me to read...

So here I've been knitting away on something, thinking that if it comes out as well as it seems like it is going to, I could submit the pattern to Knitty. I'm not sure why but for some reason I am obsessed with the idea of getting a pattern published in Knitty. Once I buy yarn, the moment I decide what I want to make with it, I start thinking about how I'll write up the pattern so it can be published. But I have only "published" one pattern so far, and it was just posted on my own site, so I'm not sure it even counts. While I've been satisfied with a lot of the things I've designed, I haven't really felt that the designs are anything special, or I haven't been ecstatic over the finished item.

This thing I'm working on now, though, well I can just tell it is going to be great. I think the design is innovative and it has a good story and (in my mind of course) it would be perfect for the fall issue of Knitty. The problem? I thought the submission deadline was July 15. I knew it would be a stretch to get it finished and write up the pattern by then, but I thought I could do it. Then, today, I checked the submission page again and found out that - oops! - the date is July 1. That's... um... 11 days. In other words, it is Not Happening.

So I'm left with a few options. I could try to submit it to Magknits instead, and I think their rules are a little more flexible, so maybe I could even post a few details about it on my blog. I could wait until the winter Knitty - even though it really is more of a fall item, I think it could go either way. Or I could try self-publishing again. But then, do I offer it up for free? Do I charge?

Decisions, decisions! Right now I'm leaning towards winter Knitty, because of the aforementioned obsession with publishing in Knitty. And if that falls through, I'll try Magknits. And if they don't want me either, I can self-publish... or maybe try one of the smaller, newer knitting magazines. I know I have plenty of options, but I am still a little disappointed that I will have to let another Knitty deadline pass me by. Ah well. Perhaps I should finish the damn thing before I get too excited about it, ya think?

maybe now i suck a little less?

I know I said I'd get it done this weekend, and I actually did have the file all ready to go last night, but then I found myself on the phone with the aforementioned Boy Who Is Dumb for over an hour. So even though it is now Monday, here it is:

Prosperous Plum Tank pattern

It's a .pdf file that looks remarkably similar to the old version, except that it is now in lots of sizes! And hopefully a little clearer, thanks to my test knitters.

And in case you're wondering, yes, that is my domain. I haven't touched it in about 2 years... but when you pay next to nothing for hosting and seemingly suffer no consequences for going over your bandwidth, you go with it. I'm hoping to move my blog over there soon as well.

Enjoy the pattern!! :)

sorry... i suck.

No pictures, no knitting to report sadly. (I have been knitting - a lot actually - but for the moment it is not bloggable.) Life recently has been... busy. And weird. Boys are dumb. And girls aren't too high on my list either. My birthday was last Monday. I celebrated it by going to a Yankees-Red Sox game in New York with my parents and sister. The Yankees won 13-5 so that made me happy. I am moving in a little over a month and while I could not be happier to be leaving my current apartment, I'm really not looking forward to the move. I am already sick of my research and of work and the summer is just starting... this could be trouble.

Gotta go get some work done. Ugh. Hopefully I'll be more interesting later.

OH WAIT, I did have some good news - remember this tank top? Well, the new-and-improved-and-resized pattern should be up this weekend, if all goes according to plan. It's about time, don't you think?
